Samuel Edward Taylor

Samuel "Sam" Edward Taylor, 80, of Double Springs, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 5:30-9 p.m. at Double Springs First Baptist Church. His funeral will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. also at First Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Double Springs Memorial Gardens. Brother Phillip Twilley and Brother George Whitten will officiate.

Sam was born December 25, 1942, in Houston. He graduated from Winston County High School in 1961 and then went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. After returning home from the Air Force, he operated the family business (Taylor Oil) for 53 years. He was a long-time member of Double Springs First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and many other positions. He loved his family, town and country greatly, but his first love was his God. He served God in many ways, but one of the greatest was by helping others. His hobbies consisted of whatever his children and grandchildren wanted to do, whether it be playing in the yard, taking trips or just spending time together. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and his legacy will live on forever.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lavonia Elenburg Taylor; son, Matthew (Stefanie) Taylor; daughter, Jill Taylor (Jeremy) Blevins; brother, Wally Taylor; sisters, Gay Kiker, Sue Tasker and Jo (Wendell) Hood; 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Avalee Taylor, brothers-in-law, John Kiker and John Tasker and nephews, Mark Kiker and Drew Taylor.
