ADDISON - They came together approximately five years ago to play America’s pastime. Now they are state champions.

Fred’s is closing

Fred’s Inc. announced Friday, July 12, it would be closing 129 stores nationwide, including the Haleyville location, including 11 others in the state.

HALEYVILLE - Fred’s Super Dollar in Haleyville will be closing soon, it was learned Friday, July 12, through a press release. A date of closing has not yet been set. The retail chain will be closing an additional 129 store locations across the country. The Haleyville location, at 916 21st Street, was one of an additional 12 in Alabama to be shuttered.

Arley seeking $350,000 grant

ARLEY - The Town of Arley is applying for a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant through Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs with help from the North Alabama Council of Local Governments. The majority of the grant will be used to clean and paint the area’s three water tanks. One tank is located in Houston, one at Nesmith and the other on County Road 52, or Firetower Road, just north of Arley.

BEAR CREEK - Needs throughout the Town of Bear Creek, which kept coming back to water issues, were the forefront of a public hearing Thursday, June 20, gathering public input towards a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant that will be used for overall community improvements.
