Police block Hwy. 13 for 18-wheeler fire at busy Haleyville intersection


An 18-wheeler caught fire at the intersection of Highways 13 and 195.

HALEYVILLE - Haleyville police and fire were both dispatched to an 18-wheeler on fire at the intersection of Highways 195 and 13 near McDonald's. 

For a time, police blocked Hwy. 13 and routed traffic down 20th Street.

Congressman Aderholt Visits Kith Kitchens Tuesday

HALEYVILLE - U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt joined Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri and officials with Kith Kitchens at the North Industrial Park, Tuesday, Sept. 18, to see first hand the product of federal funding the corporation has received through the years as part of the Smart Growth America program.

Remains of Double Springs woman found after fire


This is all that is left of a single wide manufactured home on County Road 3059 near Double Springs that was engulfed by fire Sept. 13. The remains of Kimberly Dotson, 39, of Double Springs, were found within the home.

Fields sentenced to 25 years


Ashley Brooke Fields, who was found guilty of murder/felony murder after her trial ending Aug. 10, was sentenced Wednesday, Sept. 12, to 25 years in the state penitentiary. Escorting her out of the courthouse after the sentence is Attorney Michelle Mauldin of the defense team.

Cub Scout sells 78 plates for fundraiser, awarded “good turn” coin


Caleb Pruitt sold 78 plates for the Big Jerry’s Fundraiser and was awarded the “Do a Good Turn Daily” coin.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - Caleb Pruitt, age 8, is going to be a natural born salesman when he grows up. The third grader was honored Monday, Aug. 20, at the Double Springs Cub Scouts Pack 92 meeting, for selling 78 plates for the Big Jerry’s Fundraiser.

City of Haleyville to Coach Safely

HALEYVILLE - The Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Haleyville have entered into a partnership with the Coach Safely Foundation. The resolution was passed at the council meeting on Sept. 4.

SBI investigating Bear Creek

BEAR CREEK - Allegations of misspending of funds in the Town of Bear Creek has been raised to a new level, with an active investigation now underway by the State Bureau of Investigation. The SBI has been making visits to the Bear Creek Town Hall/Water Works building, seen in photo, as part of their investigation.
