HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a political forum for Winston County candidates seeking election in the June 5 primary election.

Fire alarm at HES

A fire alarm sounded at Haleyville Elementary School Wednesday, April 11, at the start of the school day. All children and staff were safely removed from the building. Haleyville Fire Department is on hand to search for the source of the smoke smell. A second fire alarm sounded at approximately 8:40 a.m., with the Haleyville Fire Department coming back on scene.  More updates as they become available.

Java Medical Group addresses hospital employees about transition

HALEYVILLE - Officials with the Java Medical Group, the team that will now be managing day to day operations at Lakeland Community Hospital, held a department head meeting at the hospital Monday, April 2, informing them of the official news that the hospital is now under the ownership of the Haleyville/Winston County Healthcare Authority.

HALEYVILLE - The annual barbecue supper and auction sponsored by the Haleyville Civitan Club to benefit clients with disabilities at the Winston/Marion ARC will be this Saturday, April 7.

Healthcare funding agreement approved relating to transaction of Lakeland Community Hospital

HALEYVILLE - Days before the March 31 deadline of the latest extension to keep Lakeland Community Hospital open, a healthcare Funding Agreement, for the benefit of the Haleyville/Winston County Healtcare Authority, was approved by the Haleyville City Council at their regular meeting Monday, March 26, relating to financing the acqusition of the hospital.

Bankhead Recreation Areas now open


Clear Creek Recreational Area in the Bankhead National Forest is now open, as is Corinth Recreational Area. The popular sites will be open through November.
BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - The USDA Forest Service has announced the opening of the 2018 recreation season for Alabama’s four national forests – Bankhead, Conecuh, Talladega and Tuskegee.

Former Southern Homes office demolished


A trackhoe from Hyche Landfill tears down the former office of Southern Homes in the Double Springs Industrial Park Wednesday, March 21. The town now owns the property.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - Following up on recent action discussed by the Double Springs Town Council, the former office complex of Southern Homes, which is now property owned by the town, was demolished by a trackhoe by Hyche Landfill.

Principals' contracts for Bice, Wilcoxson extended by BOE

HALEYVILLE - Contracts for Christy Bice, principal at Haleyville Elementary, as well as Middle School Principal Bo Wilcoxson were extended by the Haleyville Board of Education during their regular meeting Tuesday, March 20.

No official storm reports in Winston County

WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County appears to have dodged a bullet Monday, March 12, as possible tornadoes passed by to the north and east of the county.  There are reports of storm damage in Russellville in Franklin County, as well as damage in Lawrence County.

The primary damage reports seem to be from hail, however, especially in Cullman County, where hail as large as baseballs was reported.  There were hail reports in Winston County of approximately penny size, according to the Winston County EMA.
