HALEYVILLE - Mayor Ken Sunseri gave a recap report regarding his trip last week to Washington DC to the Haleyville City Council Tuesday Feb. 20. In it, he noted that the iconic red phone from which the nation's first 9-1-1 call was made will not be going to the Smithsonian.

Bear Creek Civitans hold planning meeting for annual Relay For Life bake sale
BEAR CREEK - Names were read off as rolls of honor as the Bear Creek Civitan members met at the Bobby Bishop Community Center in Bear Creek to kick-off planning the annual Relay For Life bake sale. The event is slated for Thursday, March 29, and Friday, March 30, at the community Center.
It will be a great opportunity to get your desserts for Easter weekend. Delicious cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, breads and more will be available.

Fire at The Galley Restaurant
HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Fire Department, with assistance from Bear Creek, Craft and Delmar, were on the scene of a fire at the Galley Restaurant on Highway 13 South Wednesday night into Thursday morning, Feb. 8. Owner Venita Armstrong Hamrick reported that the fire was at the rear of the restaurant. The extent of damage is being determined.

BEAR CREEK - As part of the Bear Creek Town Council meeting Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, action was taken to increase the spending limit for the three mill property tax fund for the fire department to $5,000 before bringing it to the council.
