Missing Arley man found in truck submerged in pond

ARLEY - The body of Jerrell Cates Rogers, 73, former minister of music at Arley First Baptist Church, and a mentor to all who knew him, was found in his Nissan pickup submerged in a pond off County Road 3986 a quarter mile from his residence late Monday night, Feb. 26.

Sewer system gets good marks

HALEYVILLE - Lauren Tinker, representing the Mark Forester Foundation, made a special presentation at the regular meeting of the Haleyville Board of Education Tuesday, Feb. 27, presenting a framed picture of soldier Mark Forester--who died in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan in 2010--to HCS teacher Denise Berry for her avid support and annual participation in the Mark Forester Race held in honor of Mark at the school campus.

Mixed commission vote levies 2 mill tax

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A vote was mixed by the Winston County Commission at their regular meeting Monday morning, Feb. 26, to levy a two mill tax on taxable property for hospital and public health purposes.
