HALEYVILLE - TheHaleyville Lions baseball team defeated Cordova 5-0 on Thursday, March 21, in the first game of the doubleheader, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
John Whiteside took the win for Haleyville. He allowed two hits and no runs over four innings, striking out five and walking zero. Brantson Lambert threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. He recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Haleyville.
Scott McAlpine led the Lions with two hits in four at bats.
In the second game, Ben Lowman was brilliant on the hill, throwing a no-hitter to lead the Lions past Cordova 14-0. The winning pitcher for Haleyville, Lowman went five innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out 13 and walking none.
McAlpine led Haleyville to victory by driving in seven runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in runs on a single in the second, a triple in the third and a double in the fourth.
Haleyville scored five runs in the fourth inning. McAlpine, Tyler Dodd and Whiteside each drove in runs during the inning.
Haleyville scattered 13 hits in the game. McAlpine, Whiteside, Jackson Kennedy, John Miller Lawson and Lowman all had multiple hits for Haleyville.
