CURRY - The Haleyville Lady Lions watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to Cordova on Monday, April 29, in the first game for them in the 4A Area 11 tournament, at Curry High School. The Lady Lions lost despite out-hitting Cordova seven to five.
Cordova scored on a single by Emma Hyche in the second inning and a groundout by Jaqulyn Braswell in the second inning.
Cordova got things started in the first inning when Lillian Werling was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Cordova scored three runs in the second inning. Cordova's big inning was driven by a single by Hyche and a groundout by Braswell.
Raven Clark got the start for Cordova. She surrendered one run on seven hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.
Ana Aaron led things off on the rubber for Lady Lions. She lasted five innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out seven. Anna Lacy Sartin threw one inning out of the bullpen.
Mallory Rushing led Lady Lions, with two hits in three at bats.
