The following obituary was personally written by Lottie's family:
Lottie B. Hood, widow of Chester Hood, passed quietly on January 15th at the home of her son at the age of 97. Born to Marcus George Burnett and Mamie McLemore Burnett on their family farm in 1927, she was one of 9 children.
Lottie is survived by her two children, Lynda G. Pounders (Orbie) and Jerry Ray Hood (Sonya); her sister, Frances Burnett; sister-in-law, Charlotte Burnett and brother-in-law, Hoyatt McCreless; grandchildren, Eric Tice (Cindy), Joel Pounders (Rhonda), Jeff Pounders (Paula), Amanda Hood Davis (Dammion), Jennifer Pounders Oliver (Brett), Alison Hood Mason and T. J. Conway and a host of deeply loved cousins, nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and her many friends accumulated from her 47-year history of operating Hood's Grocery in the Needmore community and from her 55+ years as a member of Waldrop Freewill Baptist Church.
Lottie was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings (and their spouses,) Bertha (Bill) Smith, Clarence (Francis) Burnett, Earnest (Mabel) Burnett, Sherman Burnett, G. T. (Wanda Nell) Burnett, Ruby (Gravis) Mays and Faye McCreless, as well as her husband's beloved siblings (and spouses,) Edward (Flora) Hood, J. C. (Ella Dean) Hood and Clarence (Bobbie) Hood.
Lottie lived a life of service to others, always willing to care for the sick, offer a hand to those who needed one, feeding any who might be hungry and showing unconditional love to any child she ever met. Those who tasted her banana pudding will long remember it and, even though most of her generational peers have gone before her, she will be missed, but remembered in fond memories by many remaining people whose lives she has affected so positively.
Her visitation will be held at Waldrop Freewill Baptist Church by Nichols Funeral Home on Friday, January 17th from 12-1 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m.
