Carl O. Godsey

Carl O. Godsey, 93, of Houston, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

He was born March 19, 1932, to Clinton and Martha Godsey.

Carl was involved in the lumber business since the 1950's, first with his father-in-law, Owen Alford and later other associates. He remained in the lumber business throughout his life and transitioned to real estate development in the 1980's. He developed several major tracts of lake front properties on Lewis Smith Lake and the business continues as COG, LLC.

Carl and Owene were lifelong supporters of the Houston Memorial United Methodist Church. Carl was a member of the Alabama Farmers Federation and served as Winston County President for a number of years. He will be most remembered as a man who loved his family and was respected by all who had any dealings with him.

Visitation will be Friday, April 18, 2025, from 6:30 - 8:30p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Houston Memorial United Methodist Church. Carl will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Carl is survived by his children, Robert (Tonya) Godsey and Mary Moore; grandchildren, James David (Mary) Moore, Stephen D. (Haley) Moore, Mary Beth (Evan) Bush, John Godsey, Chris (Lauren) Godsey, Brittney Godsey and Amelia Godsey; great grandchildren, Ethan Moore, Ella Moore, Eli Moore, Liam Moore, Ryley Moore, Kinley Moore, Maddie Bush, Bryson Bush, Ava Godsey and Jade Godsey; and s sister-in-law, Betty Godsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Clinton Godsey; wife, Owene A. Godsey; and brother, Lanier Godsey.
