Lions XC season comes to an end

The team was surprised and inspired by a special supporter at the state XC meet. He is one of last year’s stand out runners, Tristin Carter. Tristan is currently a student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. From left are: Hayden Armstrong, Carter and Lewis Barber.

OAKVILLE - After an impressive season from a very young Haleyville Cross Country team, the season culminated Saturday Nov. 9, at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Cross Country state championships at the Oakville Indian Mounds in Oakville.
It was a beautiful Saturday with close to 2,400 runners from all over the state participating. It is a huge accomplishment for any team to make it past sectionals and to be able to compete at this level.
It was estimated that over 20,000 people were in attendance and team charter buses could be seen from as far as Baldwin and Mobile counties. Both Haleyville boys and girls finished in 14th place, in the 4A division,  to end their seasons.
Top 5 runners for the girls team were Kaytee Beth Boyles, Ana Aaron, Carlie Pendley, Mae Boyles and Emma Nethery. Top 5 runners for the boys were Logan Smith, Gracen Smith, Lewis Barber, Moises Cardona and William Robbins.
The team would like to thank coaches Elyse Aldridge and Lee Frix for their long hours and patience! The team would like to send a special “Thank  You” to Dr. Holly Sutherland and Principal Davey Reed who never fail to support the Running Lions! Also, appreciation is extended  to Encore Rehabilitation and the Northwest Alabamian for your continued support.
