Missing Arley man found in truck submerged in pond

ARLEY - The body of Jerrell Cates Rogers, 73, former minister of music at Arley First Baptist Church, and a mentor to all who knew him, was found in his Nissan pickup submerged in a pond off County Road 3986 a quarter mile from his residence late Monday night, Feb. 26. Rogers went missing earlier Monday night, resulting in a search from multiple fire departments, emergency responders, church members and volunteers spanning at least an eight mile area before someone reported seeing headlights coming from under the pond water. The truck was pulled from the water by Hearn's Wrecker Service with emergency responders removing Rogers, who was pronounced dead by Deputy Winston County Coroner Don Dimond. Cause of death is pending. The incident is being investigated as an accident.
