Ruth Forman Reece, 89, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at Rose Manor Assisted Living in Haleyville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Maurice Aaron Reece, formerly of Haleyville and parents, Mary Kuppersmith Forman and Hymie Forman of Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by her family, Angie (Lionel) Sullivan, Quita (Wayne) Rushing, Stephanie Bershad, Roda Taylor, Darinda Adlam, Mona McDonald, Greg Adlam, Art Adlam and other beloved family members.
Ruth was born in Brooklyn, New York, where she met and married Maurice in 1972. They never had children of their own, but they so enjoyed getting together with friends and family. They operated a clothing store in Manhattan for many years before moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They opened and operated another clothing store in Chapel Hill until Maurice accepted a position with Duke University’s Medical Library. Ruth loved to sing, and she often entertained with her songs and stories of growing up in Brooklyn. Walking everywhere she went and traveling on the subway, she made frequent visits to Coney Island and experienced life in New York to the fullest. One of her experiences was written into a story by her husband, Maurice, and incorporated into part of an HBO movie called Subway Stories. After Maurice’s death in 2009, Ruth moved to Alabama to be near family, where she was loved and cared for.
Ruth had the most admirable attitude toward life. She counted her blessings, always, accepting change and challenge with a positive outlook. She will be so missed.
Many thanks go to the wonderful staff at Riverside Sr. Living in Decatur and Rose Manor Assisted Living in Haleyille, who lovingly helped care for Ruth in her later years.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Pinkard Funeral Home is assisting the family.
