Storm shelter underneath Haleyville City Hall will be available as a warming center

HALEYVILLE - The City of Haleyville is preparing to open the storm shelter underneath Haleyville City Hall to serve as a warming center for anyone in need of a warm place to go through at least Monday.

Anyone in need utilizing the warming center Sunday night will need to call Haleyville Police Dispatch at (205) 486-5201 first.  The shelter will not be open to walk-ins on Sunday night unless someone calls dispatch with a need for the service.

The warming center will be open and manned as of 7 a.m. Monday, January 15, for those who are in need of a warm place to go.  There will be no need to call first before coming on Monday.

The main roads in Haleyville will be pre-treated in preparation for the winter weather event that is expected to begin at early as 4 p.m. Sunday, January 14.  A Winter Storm Warning will go into effect at 6 p.m. Sunday evening, and is currently not set to expire until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 16.  A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected, with accumulations of both snow and ice possible.  While the main roads will be pre-treated, there is a potential that they will still be slick, as will side roads.  The National Weather Service in Birmingham is stating that road conditions in Marion and Winston counties could be difficult, and sporadic power outages could occur due to the weather.

The City of Haleyville will be posting updates as needed on its Facebook page.  Updates will also be posted to the Haleyville Police Department's Facebook page
