Haleyville boys and girls area tournament action

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville High School boys and girls teams secured area titles last week. The Lions took down Cordova and Curry, with the Lady Lions winning against Curry and Fayette. The girls hosted the subregion Monday, Feb. 10, against St. John Paul II Catholic and the boys hosted Danville on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Scores were not available by presstime.
In the Curry game, Catie Aldridge led the scoring for the ladies with 13 points, Tesley Callahan had 12, with Reagan Kutis, 10. Mae Boyles put in 5, followed by Molly Gilbert and Madison Caine with 2 apiece.

CORDOVA - Moved up a day because of rain in the forecast, the football boys of Haleyville High School football team traveled to team up against the Cordova Blue Devils Thursday night, Oct. 24. However, it did not go as Haleyville planned, with a 35-26 loss and no advancement to the playoffs.

CURRY - The Haleyville Lady Lions watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to Cordova on Monday, April 29, in the first game for them in the 4A Area 11 tournament, at Curry High School. The Lady Lions lost despite out-hitting Cordova seven to five.
Cordova scored on a single by Emma Hyche in the second inning and a groundout by Jaqulyn Braswell in the second inning.
Cordova got things started in the first inning when Lillian Werling was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Late score costs Lady Lions against Cordova
HALEYVILLE - Lady Lions stayed in it until the end, but Cordova pulled away late in an 11-2 victory on Friday, April 19. The game was tied at two with Cordova batting in the top of the fourth when a single on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
The Lady Lions struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Cordova, giving up 11 runs.
Lady Lions loses to Cordova 5-0
One bright spot for the Haleyville Lady Lions was a single by Carlie Brazell in the first inning on Thursday, March 21 against Cordova.
Raven Clark was in the pitcher's circle for Cordova. She lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out seven.
Anna Lacy Sartin started the game for Lady Lions. She lasted three and a third innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one. Ana Aaron threw two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
Four RBI day for Lawson clutch in Haleyville win
CORDOVA - John MIller Lawson was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond on Tuesday, March 19, driving in four on three hits to lead Haleyville Lions baseball team past Cordova 6-1. Lawson drove in runs on a triple in the third, a double in the fifth, and a double in the seventh.
Blake Bennett led things off on the mound for Haleyville. He allowed two hits and one run over six and two-thirds innings, striking out 10.
HHS shuts out Cordova in doubleheader

HALEYVILLE - TheHaleyville Lions baseball team defeated Cordova 5-0 on Thursday, March 21, in the first game of the doubleheader, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
John Whiteside took the win for Haleyville. He allowed two hits and no runs over four innings, striking out five and walking zero. Brantson Lambert threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. He recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Haleyville.
Scott McAlpine led the Lions with two hits in four at bats.

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Lions were firing on all cylinders Friday, Oct. 26, as they mauled the Cordova Blue Devils to the tune of a 39-20 senior night win.
