21st Century Learning Grant for Winston County Schools expanding opportunities

ADDISON - After-school programs have either been brought back, formed or enriched at four schools in the Winston County Schools system, thanks to $4 million spread over the next five years through the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
The grant provided $80,000 to restart the after-school program at Addison Elementary School, as well as begin new programs at Double Springs Middle School and Double Springs Elementary, according to educators.

SMITH LAKE - It may seem like elementary age is too early to think about college scholarships, but two Addison Elementary students have already been awarded a combined $140,000 in scholarships to Kentucky Christian University based on their fishing skills.

WINSTON COUNTY - Addison and Double Springs elementary schools will soon have received 30,000 packages each of Lysol® disinfecting wipes from Frontline Impact Project® thanks to Lysol’s® Here for Healthy Schools campaign.
Each of the 60,000 packages contains 80 wipes, for a whopping total of 4,800,000 wipes, which are being shared with all county schools.
Funding for four new classrooms in Winston County announced
WINSTON COUNTY - Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education have announced that 36 new classrooms will be funded through the Pre-K through 3rd Grade Integrated Approach to Early Learning (P-3).

Winston County 4-Hers are busy with a variety of fun—and educational—projects. Addison 4-Hers, for example, are working on the eXtreme Birdhouse project and a photography project called the World I See/Imagine.
Addison Schools go virtual until Feb. 1 due to COVID-19
