WCHS teams defeat Sumiton Christian

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County High School boys and girls teams defeated Sumiton Christian Friday, Jan. 31. The ladies won easily by a score of 58-18, with the boys winning a narrow victory 47-45. Pictured above, starting from left are Brooks Bonds fighting for a rebound. Lady Jackets eliminated by Red Bay

ADDISON - The Winston County High School Lady Jackets played a tough game against Red Bay in 2A Area 13 area tournament action Monday, Feb. 3. The tournament was played at Addison High School.
The Lady Tigers defeated WCHS by only seven points, 42-35. Winston County was without Mackenzie Blackwood, who suffered a broken nose in the Friday, Jan. 31, game against Sumiton Christian. Jazzy Ergle also did not play.
Stats for the Lady Jackets included:
Olivia Wright, 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals;
Ella Moore, 1 rebound;
Madison Comeens, 2 rebounds;

Winston County High School Varsity Boys are county champions. DOUBLE SPRINGS - Basketball fans from across Winston County descended upon Winston County High School Thursday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 25, for the annual Winston County Varsity Basketball Tournament.  The varsity boys and girls championships were both battles between long-time foes Addison and WCHS, with the two schools splitting the victories.

DOUBLE SPRINGS  -  The Winston County Yellow Jackets defeated the Phillips Bears Friday, Dec. 27, 56-42, at WCHS.
Scoring for the Bears were: Hayden Hulsey, 2 points; Brodie Coan, 5 points; Ken Edwards, 14 points; Alex Copeland, 8 points; Lucas Atkins, 2 points; Tanner Markham, 2 points; Connor Wright, 2 points; Collin Grace, 7 points.
Stats from the Winston County Yellow Jackets were not submitted.

WCHS, Phillips eliminated from state tournament

BIRMINGHAM - The Winston County High School Lady Jackets, coached by Tiffany Cole,  were  defeated in the quarterfinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Elite Eight 2019 state volleyball championships by G.W. Long on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Long won the state title this year in 2A.
The tournament was held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham on Wednesday and finals at the Bill Harris Arena on Thursday.
Stats for the WCHS Lady Jackets were:
Mackenzie Blackwood, 22 kills, 2 digs, 2 aces.
Elle Donaldson, 29 digs, 2 aces;

WCHS hands Sumiton Christian 46-7 loss

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Yellow Jackets slammed Sumiton Christian Thursday night, Oct. 24, by a score of 46-7.
The Yellow Jackets had a total of 401 yards on the ground and had 35 yards in penalties.
WCHS held the visitors to only 96 to yards on the night, with Sumiton Christian hit with 20 yards in penalties.
Winston County will host Lynn Friday, Nov. 1.
