The Northwest Alabamian is happy to once again be saluting our veterans this year in a special section, which will come out Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The section will contain photos of local residents and/or their loved ones who have served in all branches of our nation’s armed forces - from the Civil War to the present. Along with the photos, the soldier’s name, rank, branch of service, war(s) fought in, years of service and, for active duty members of the military, the place where the solider is currently stationed will be included. There is no charge to submit information and photos.
This will be the sixth consecutive year the Alabamian has printed a veterans’ tribute section. All the photos that have been submitted in the past will run again. Those who submitted photos in the past are welcome to trade the photo out for a new photo. Also, those who have submitted active duty military members are asked to update their information, if possible.
“We really need those who have family members who are active duty military and have submitted their loved ones’ photos to us for our past tribute sections to update their loved one’s information. We want to make sure we are presenting the most accurate information possible,” Managing Editor Shelly Hess said. That information can be updated by calling (205) 486-9461 or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Photos and information can be submitted numerous ways. Photos can be brought by the Alabamian, located on Highway 195 in Haleyville, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“Our staff will be happy to scan the photos and return them to you when you bring them by,” Hess said.
Photos and information can also be mailed to:
Attn: Veterans Salute

“Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope so we can return your photo to you,” Hess said.
