ADDISON - The congested intersection of Highway 278, County Road 41 and Old Cullman Road has become such a safety concern through the years, that nearly $1 million in Rebuild Alabama funds will go toward improvements.
Governor Kay Ivey announced that $991,275.38 in ATRIP-II funding has been awarded for intersection improvements and access management, county officials said. The funding will not require a local match, which will further benefit the project, according to State Representative Tim Wadsworth.
“I congratulate the Town of Addison and Winston County for receiving a $991,275 Rebuild Alabama grant to make improvements and fix access to the intersection of Highway 278 and State Highway 41,” Wadsworth stated.
“Remarkably, no local match money is required for this project,” Wadsworth added. “These funds are a result of the Rebuild Alabama program, which awards grants once a year.
“The funds are applied for by the county and recommended by the Alabama legislative delegation of that county,” Wadsworth continued.
The county commission, Wadsworth explained, was responsible for making the selection and filing the grant application, with the legislature providing a letter of recommendation.
“It is important to note that these funds are not available for county roads but are designated for state and federal roads,” Wadsworth pointed out.
