This year marks 250 years since the American colonies declared their independence from England and began forming the United States. That calls for a celebration.
The Alabamian plans to publish a very special keepsake edition Wednesday, July 1, honoring our nation while also celebrating Winston County and Bear Creek’s roles in making our nation great. The section will feature the history of our county and its communities - past and present - along with dozens of historic photos, fun activities for children and much more.
The Alabamian has looked to its past for inspiration for this special section.
“The Alabamian’s bicentennial edition in 1976 was absolutely beautiful,” Managing Editor Shelly Hess said. “It paid a wonderful tribute to our nation while celebrating who we were as Winston Countians at the same time.”
The United States has grown and thrived thanks to all of its people, and the Alabamian wants this special section to reflect that history on a local level. All families, churches, businesses and non-profit organizations are welcome to submit a write-up detailing their family, church, business or non-profit’s history, along with a photo, to include in this section. We ask that word counts for the articles be limited to 500 words.
Articles and photos can be submitted multiple ways. They can be emailed to news@mynwapaper.com., mailed to Northwest Alabamian, P.O. Box 430, Haleyville, Ala. 35565 or dropped off at our office, located on Highway 195 in Haleyville. Our office hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Please include a phone number in case we need to contact you.
