Inaugural McDowell 5K and Fun Run Saturday

CAMP MCDOWELL - The inaugural McDowell 5K and Fun Run will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, at Camp McDowell, located off of Highway 195 near the Winston-Walker county line.  
Registration is currently taking place online at runsignup.com/Race/AL/Nauvoo/McDowell5KFunRun.  The fee for the 5K is $40.  The fee for the 1-mile Fun Run is $20.  Those who want to do both races get a discount, with the cost for both races $50. In-person registration will also take place the day of the race from 7-7:45 a.m. 
The 5K is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with the Fun Run beginning at 9 a.m.
The 5K will take place on a good mix of trail and road, providing a balance of sun and shade.  There will be two aid and recovery stations set up along the way.  
Awards will be given to the overall male and female with the fastest completion times of the 5K, as well as 1st - 3rd place awards by gender in age groups from children to over 70.  
There will also be several raffles held on site, with no fee to enter.  Awards and raffle prizes will be presented at 9:30 a.m.
Proceeds will go to help fund overnight trips to the McDowell Environmental Center, which provides outdoor learning experiences for school groups.
