Phillips wins 1A Area 14 tournament


The Phillips High School Lady Bears won their area tournament, advancing to regional competition. BEAR CREEK - Ranked third in the state 1A volleyball and a season record of 35-8, the Phillips Lady Bears won the 1A Area 14 tournament.
All-Tournament players were Lexie Dishner, Amber Markham and Baily Bishop.
Scores and stats for PHS include defeating Hackleburg, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19. Dishner had 29 assists, 7 digs, 1 kill, 2 aces; Bailey was good for 6 kills, 1 ace and 1 block; Markham had 9 kills, 6 digs, 1 ace; Gracie Hallman turned in 8 kills, 8 digs, 6 assists, 1 block and 1 ace; Caitlin Markham had 5 digs, 1 assists; Ally McCollum had 7 kills, Mary Ashton Hyde, 8 digs, 8 kills, 4 aces; Autumn Edwards, 1 dig; Jill Gillum, 4 digs, 1 assist, 1 ace.
In the PHS v. Belgreen match, Phillips won three out of four contests. Scores were 25-11, 20-24, 25-18 and 25-23. PHS stats for that match were: Dishner, 25 assists, 12 digs, 5 kills, 2 aces; Bishop, 12 kills, 1 block, 2 digs, 3 aces; Hallman, 5 assists, 6 kills, 1 blocks, 5 digs; Caitlin Martin, 2 digs; Markham, 9 digs, 1 assist,12 kills, 1 block, 1 ace; McCollum, 5 kills, 4 blocks, 4 digs, 1 assist; Hyde, 7 digs, 2 assists, 2 kills, 1 ace; Gillum, 3 digs, 1 assist.
PHS won in the northern regionals in three straight against Mars Hill, but lost to Faith Christian.
