Meek, Lynn top two in area tournament

ARLEY - The two Winston County teams in 1A Area 12 earned the honor of area champs and runners-up in the tournament held Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Meek High School in Arley.
Meek captured the top prize by defeating Brilliant 25-16, 25-20 and 25-12 in straight sets in the opening match of the night.
The Lady Tigers then defeated the Lynn Lady Bears in straight in the championship match by scores of 25-23, 25-6 and 25-12.
The Lady Bears, as area runners-up, beat Marion County in a five set match, where both teams left it all on the floor.
Marion County won the first set 25-11. Lynn took the second set 25-19, with the Lady Raiders taking the third set 25-18. Lynn came from behind to win the fourth game 25-23 and snatched the runners-up slot by a narrow 16-14 win in the fifth and final game.
