3 Coaches Resign at Haleyville City Schools

HALEYVILLE  -  Haleyville Board of Education members are seeking to fill the void in the head coaching position at Haleyville High School, after Todd McNutt resigned, along with two other coaching staff members approved at the board’s  Monday, Nov. 26 meeting.
McNutt’s resignation as head football coach was  effective Nov. 12. Offensive coordinator Ryan Brewer resigned effective Nov. 13, the same effective date as Senn Williams’ resignation as middle school head football coach. 
Williams also resigned as high school assistant varsity baseball coach effective Dec. 31.
Haleyville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland announced the resignations which comprised a majority of the personnel list approved at the meeting Monday night.
The fourth resignation approved was Andrew Welborn as full time bus driver for the school system, effective Dec. 31.
Dr. Sutherland commended McNutt, Brewer and Williams for the work they have done for the school system.
“Coach Todd McNutt is a very valuable member of both the HHS coaching and teaching staff,” Dr. Sutherland said.
“He has served the Haleyville community well and will continue to do so. He is a leader among our staff and we are blessed to have him,” Dr. Sutherland added.
Although McNutt has stepped down as high school head football coach, he will remain varsity baseball coach and athletic director, the superintendent stated.
“We are actively seeking a new head coach,” she said. 
Dr. Sutherland, at the work session held prior to Monday night’s board meeting, passed out a total of 43 resumes or applications that have already been submitted for the high school head football coach position, so board members could begin reviewing.
Applications will be received by the board until Dec. 21, after which time, they will be reviewed and the list narrowed to five to 10 candidates which will be interviewed, Dr. Sutherland explained.
“We hope to have a new head coach named by the end of January,”  she said.
Concerning Brewer, Dr. Sutherland noted he had invested much into the school system.
“He has worked hard for our program,” she said, adding about Williams, “He has done a great job with HMS football and as the assistant baseball coach. He will be missed in these programs.”
Board President Barry Burleson thanked McNutt and Brewer for the two years of service they provided HCS and wished them the best.
Burleson added the board is advertising for the position of head football coach/athletic director.
“We are looking at somebody that can  come in and motivate, inspire our kids and get us back on a winning track,” Burleson pointed out.
“Our community expects a lot. We expect a lot, and we want to win,” he added.
