LYNN - It went down to the wire, but the Meek varsity boys eliminated the Lynn Bears from the Winston County Basketball tournament Friday, Jan. 25, 40-39.
Held at Lynn High School, Meek had a one point lead at the end of the first quarter 11-10. Lynn led at halftime by four, 24-20. Meek narrowed the gap by two at the end of the third period, trailing 25-27 and took the victory 40-39.
Scoring for the Meek Tigers were Caleb Aaron 15 points; Chris Clark 8 points; Stuart Waldrep 6 points; Payton Key 6 points; Kevin Chino 5 points.
No Lynn stats were available by presstime.
In the Addison v. Meek girls varsity game, Addison pulled out a 48-45 victory over the Meek Lady Tigers.
Meek led at the end of the first quarter 14-9, but Addison was ahead by two points at halftime, 23-21. Meek had a slim one point lead at the end of the third period, 36-35. The Lady Bulldogs overtook the Lady Tigers to win 48-45 in the fourth period of play.
Emma Fincher lead the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17, followed by Jessie Woodard with 12 points. Other scorers included Abby Phillips 7 points; Bailee Fincher 2 points; Dani Cotton 2; Savanna Smith 5.
Destiny Walker led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points, followed by Macey Butler with 12. Also helping the Lady Bulldogs with the win were Callie Crider 6 points; Kaylee Brummett 9; Savannah Manley 4; Amylia Cleghorn 3.
In the Saturday night championships, Winston County and Addison girls faced each other, with Meek and Winston County boys playing for the title.
