The Haleyville Lions baseball team secured the 4A Area 11 championship Wednesday, April 10, in Fayette by defeating Fayette County 3-2. Haleyville pitchers allowed just four hits to Fayette County.
Bennett took the win for Haleyville. He surrendered two runs on three hits over six innings, striking out nine. John Whiteside threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Whiteside recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Lions.
Carter Sanford took the loss for Fayette County. He surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
In the first inning, HHS got their offense started on a Blake Bennett double, scoring two runs.
Bennett went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead HHS in hits.
