Matt Coleman at the New Balance Nationals in North Carolina, where he placed second in the junior high division.
HALEYVILLE - 14-year-old Matthew Coleman has had a very busy and successful spring and summer. The rising freshman at Haleyville High School placed second in the javelin in the junior division in the New Balance Nationals held in May in North Carolina.
He placed first at sectionals in Winfield this spring, with the HHS track team in the javelin competition.
That qualified him for the state meet in Gulf Shores, where he placed 14th in the high school division. This allowed him to compete in the New Balance Nationals.
Coleman also qualified for the junior national olympics, as well.
When he is not competing in track meets, he also plays football, basketball and baseball for Haleyville.
His parents are Matt and Katie Coleman.
