Ohio sex offender found hiding at motel

Charlie Shallenberg

HALEYVILLE - A woman convicted of child pornography in Ohio who is wanted on other charges was found hiding out in a room at the Imperial Inn in Haleyville, where she was taken into custody.
Charlie Shallenberg, 29, of 2335 E. Howard Road, Columbus, Ohio, was taken into custody on Thursday, March 18, at Room 212, where she was reportedly staying with her boyfriend,  said Sgt. Eddie Collins with the Haleyville Police Department.
Shallenberg, described  as a tier 2 sex offender  ion Ohio’s sex offender registry, had failed to register as a sex offender after her June 19, 2013, conviction in Ohio of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor.
Tier 2 sex offender status in Ohio can mean the involvement of a minor in a sexual performance, solicitation of a minor to practice prostitution and/or, production or distribution of child porn, according to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio.
On March 18, Haleyville Police Chief Rodney Lewis gave Collins a note with a name on it to follow up on information the department had received from a complaint that a convicted sex offender from Ohio was possibly staying at the Imperial Inn, located on Highway 13, Collins explained.
Haleyville Police made contact with a law enforcement agency in Ohio, specifically with an officer who works in the sex crimes unit, discovering Shallenberg is a convicted sex offender, Collins added.
Collins responded to the Imperial Inn to make sure they were taking the correct person into custody, he said.
Shallenberg, who was using an alias, was found to be staying with her boyfriend said Collins, adding that she is 3 1/2 months pregnant.  She was taken into custody.  The male subject was not charged, according to Collins.
