Marion-Winston Community Action merger with CAPNA now in effect

WINSTON COUNTY - Beginning October 1, Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, Inc. (CAPNA) and Marion-Winston Counties Community Action Committee, Inc. (MWCCAC) formally merged to serve five core north Alabama counties under the CAPNA name. The merger was recently approved by the boards of directors of both agencies. 

CAPNA has served Cullman, Lawrence and Morgan counties with funding from the Community Services Block Grant.  With the merger, CAPNA will continue to provide the same services in its original core county area, as well as provide services formerly managed by Marion-Winston Community Action Agency in Marion and Winston counties. 

Marion-Winston Counties CAC Executive Director Jeff Fleming said, “This transition will allow Marion and Winston counties the opportunity to have access to a broader range of services while still utilizing the funding allocated to be used to assist families and individuals struggling with household expenses.  We look forward to the benefit that CAPNA’s experience and expertise can add to the services already provided.”

MWCCAC has served residents of Marion and Winston counties with energy assistance, food assistance and information and referral services at its offices in Double Springs, Haleyville and Hamilton.  CAPNA will continue to provide these services using contactless processes through these same locations.

About the effect the merger will have on the communities in Marion and Winston counties, CAPNA CEO Tim Thrasher stated, “Effective October 1, 2021, the merging of Marion-Winston Community Action Agency into Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, Inc. (CAPNA) will elevate and expand the community’s services by using federal, state and local resources to address the most pertinent areas of need within Marion and Winston counties.  CAPNA is excited to help people and promote change by adding these two counties to our footprint.

CAPNA’s Director of Community Services Cindy Anderson is leading the transition of the Marion-Winston staff to her team and praised the work the Marion-Winston agency staff have performed in the MWCCAC service area.
