DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Fire Fighters Association met at the Double Springs Municipal Building Tuesday, July 28, for their monthly meeting. Before the business meeting, State Representatives Tracy Estes and Tim Wadsworth distributed checks to each fire department.

HALEYVILLE - At a time when schools have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, extra funding for capital improvements is a welcome relief, with Haleyville City Schools planning to focus a portion of its $2 million bond issue allotment on a new, modern look for the high school gymnasium.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - ”Stitching” together in this trying time of pandemic, there is a group aiming to help make life easier for others.
Sharon Fike, of Double Springs, got the idea to help make face masks to give to first responders in the area. State Representative Tracy Estes will be distributing them amongst Winston and Marion counties.

Two scholarships for Space Camp available for House District 17
WINSTON COUNTY - Rep. Tracy Estes (R-Winfield), has announced middle school students in House District 17 - which includes Haleyville, Double Springs and Bear Creek - may apply for one of two scholarships to attend space camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.

WINSTON COUNTY - A “one to one” initiative has paid off for the Winston County School System, thanks to the Resource Conservation and Development of Northwest Alabama council association.
Alabama Senate passes Ivey's Rebuild Alabama Plan
MONTGOMERY - By a 28-6 vote, the Alabama Senate has approved Governor Kay Ivey's Rebuild Alabama plan for increased infrastructure funding on day five of a special legislative session the governor called. The Rebuild Alabama plan has now been signed into law by Gov. Ivey.
