County's entire school bus fleet now air conditioned


These empty bus seats will soon be filled, as buses will be on the road next week picking up and dropping off students for a new school year.
WINSTON COUNTY - As a new school literally rolls around the corner, the Winston County Schools system assures their fleet of buses is ready to roll, but that the public and students show follow important safety tips before the roadways become more crowded with the large yellow student carriers.

HALEYVILLE - The 4th annual Art/STEAM Expo at Haleyville City Schools will be unlike anything ever experienced before, complete with a new time slot and new experiences during an entire campus open house showcasing student talent.

School systems virtual Thursday due to severe weather threat

WINSTON COUNTY - Both Haleyville City and Winston County school systems have announced a virtual day for Thursday, February 16, due to the threat of severe weather.  Students will not be on campus that day, but teachers will be there to assist students with virtual or online lessons. According to ABC Meteorologist James Spann, the severe weather is expected to enter the western portion of the state around noon on Thursday.

Rumors untrue

HALEYVILLE - The Alabamian has determined that rumors about the drug fentanyl having caused a poisoning at Haleyville City Schools are false, having checked with Police Chief Rodney Lewis.

Lewis explained that the police department responded to a 13-year-old experiencing a drug overdose, but the incident did not involve fentanyl, nor did the incident occur on a school campus or at any school-related activity or function.

Haleyville City Schools superintendent contract renewed


Haleyville School Board President Chad Tidwell cast the only no vote toward renewing HCS Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland’s contract for the next three years.
HALEYVILLE - The contract renewal for Haleyville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland has been approved on a 4-1 vote by the board of education, four months before the board was required to notify the superintendent of the renewal.

HALEYVILLE - Haleyville City Schools is greeting a new school year starting today, Wednesday, Aug. 10, with a renewed sense of enthusiasm by raising the bar even higher.

Haleyville Schools Child Nutrition Program, open to all children, starts July 5

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville City Schools Child Nutrition Program is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge, starting Tuesday, July 5. With the exception of the first day, the program will be available Monday - Thursday until July 21. Meals will be provided at Haleyville High School Cafeteria, 2001 20th Street, Haleyville. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on July 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 and 21.
