Commission approves new roofs for Extension Service and Little Rock Building

Winston County Extension Service Coordinator Zack Brannon shows where ceiing tiles have been removed due to leaks and garbage cans are being used to collect rain.

DOUBLE SPRINGS      - Leaking roofs have resulted in damage at both the Winston County Extension Office and the Little Rock Building, prompting the Winston County Commission to approve roofing projects for both after an extensive review of the bids.
The commission has been seeking bids for some time to replace the roof at both buildings, but rejected the first set of bids because prices were too high, noted Commission Chairman Roger Hayes.
Hayes indicated the base bids were as high as $50,000, too steep for the commission.
On the second round of bids the commission received, three were for the extension office building with two bids for the little rock building, Hayes said.
“Roofs wear out.  A lot of times they have been leaking before it (damage) shows up,” Hayes pointed out. “It has done some damage on some decking.
“You don’t know what the damage is until you take the roofing off, then  you can tell,” Hayes pointed out.
