Lynn Day returns Aug. 5

LYNN       -  A new organization in the Town of Lynn is seeking to raise funds for girls sports at Lynn Schools by bringing back a community festival.
Lynn Day will return Saturday, August 5, beginning at 9 a.m. with games and activities spanning downtown from Lynn Schools to Lynn Town Hall, noted Tracey Wiginton, one of the event organizers.
Wiginton represents the new Lady Bear Booster Club, which was recently formed with the mission of providing equipment for all of the girls sporting events.  The Lady Bear Booster Club will be sponsoring the festival, she said.
“We’re trying to bring that back and trying to bring more people to the community,” Wiginton said.
“It has been a few years since we have had an event like this,” she added. “We encourage everyone to come out. We look forward to having this every year in the future, and we’re looking to build this for years to come.
Lynn Day currently has lined up four food trucks, as well as a car and truck show, live musical entertainment,  cow patty bingo and other activities, she added.
Food trucks will be providing barbecue, ribs, wings, shaved ice, roasted Mexican corn, lemonade, soft serve ice cream, loaded teas, banana splits, sandwiches and subs.
The car show, to be held in the large parking area between the basketball court and school,  is open to all specialty vehicles, classic cars/trucks, motorcycles, jeeps and tractors, according to Wiginton.
Participants need to bring $30 per entry, with registration held on-site the day of the festival.
“They don’t have to pre-register,” said Wiginton.
The food trucks will be situated closer to the Lynn School lunchroom, with vendors in the large grassy area beside the parking lot.
Food vendors pay $40 pre-registration or $45 at the festival, organizers continued.
Arts and crafts vendors will also be at the festival. Pre-registration is encouraged for these vendors as well, with regular vendors paying $25 pre-registration and $30 for booth space the day of the festival.
The cow patty bingo will be $25 per square.
