DOUBLE SPRINGS      -  The fairness of salaries between elementary, middle and high school-level principals sparked much discussion and even disagreement at a Winston County Board of Education work session Tuesday, July 18.
In their regular meeting held after the working session, the board voted to approve administrative contracts, supplements and salary schedules for the 2023-2024 school year, but with a condition.  Superintendent Greg Pendley told board members he planned to meet with all principals this week and discuss options on adjusting principals’ salaries based on recent concerns discussed at the working session, possibly offering a one-time supplement to the salaries.
Pendley began the work session by addressing information he had checked regarding the concern over principals’ salaries brought to their attention by Board Member Randy Lee at their last regular meeting.
Lee, a retired principal at Addison Elementary School, noted salaries should be considered to bring elementary principals’ pay more in line with the amount made by high school principals.
“We’re paying all of our administrative folks more than the state sends us right now, all levels,” Pendley stated.
