HAMILTON - Farmers and agriculture programs throughout the state and in the schools had some one-on-one time with federal officials during their announcement Thursday afternoon, May 3, of a $600 million pilot program that will extend broadband internet into rural areas, helping many in agriculture. The grant was administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service, funded under the Community Connect Broadband Grant Program.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was joined by U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt, John McMillan, commissioner of the Commission of Alabama Agriculture and Industries who met with a large crowd of farmers, agriculture leaders throughout the state as well as school FFA program leaders at OBriens Steakhouse in Hamiton, to talk about how the extension of high speed internet could greatly benefit the agriculture industry.
