Sheriff’s office seminar to educate on identity theft and scams

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Sheriff’s Office will  show citizens how to protect themselves from scams and identity theft in an upcoming seminar to be held Tuesday, May 22, at 6 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom of the Winston County Court House.

Topics to be covered are tax, child, medical and senior identity theft and phone banking, charity/disaster and lottery scams, among other topics such as checking credit reports and scores.

Bryan Kirkpatrick, chief deputy, and Brad Curtis, investigator, will present the program.

“It’s running rampant across the United States, and there have been several people here in Winston County who have been t ouched by it,” said Kirkpatrick.“We just want to get the word out,” he continued. “They’re not just targeting the elderly, they are targeting everybody.”
