DOUBLE SPRINGS - The risk of dying in a structure fire can be reduced by half due to an operating smoke detector, which sends out a warning alert when sensing heat or smoke.
The Double Springs Fire Department has partnered with the Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation and Development Council, which provided $1,500 from state funds for free smoke detectors to older residents or residents on a fixed income, in order to make sure they have adequate warning should a fire occur.
The RC&D approached Double Springs town officials that some funding was available and for the town to choose a project.
