Haleyville Lions lose by two in subregion play

HALEYVILLE - It went down to the wire, but the Haleyville Lions fell short 53-51 Tuesday, Feb. 12, against the St. John Paul II Catholic Falcons, of Huntsville, in northwest subregion action.
As 4A Area 11 champs, Haleyville hosted the game that proved to be  hard fought and tight throughout. A last second three-point shot by Haleyville hit the rim, but did not fall through to give the Falcons the victory.
Scoring by quarters had Haleyville in the lead the first period 13-10 and at halftime by one, 20-19. The Falcons took the third and fourth quarters 40-32 and 53-51.
The Haleyville Lions fans came out in full force to support HHS, including a rambunctious student cheering section and the HHS Pep Band directed by director Reggie Tolbert and assistant director Judd Williams.
Ben Lowman led the scoring for the Lions with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals; Clay Blanton 13 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists; Grayson Long 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal; Jon Tyler Gilbert 7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block; Rusty Frost 2 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists.
