WINSTON COUNTY - The compassion shown by the late Terry Wayne “Bubba” Lewis to his automotive technology students at the Winston Career Academy is a legacy that will never be forgotten and is being honored by the establishment of a memorial scholarship.

Four teachers in Winston County receive grants

Three teachers in Double Springs and one in Haleyville received Alabama Power Foundation Classroom Grants recently. Danny Snoddy, electrical technology instructor at the Winston Career Academy, received $1000 for the utility lineworker program. Angela McCullar, third grade teacher at Double Springs Elementary, received $1000 for her classroom, as did Casey Wilson, seventh grade special education teacher at Haleyville Middle School. Cindy Nuss, kindergarten teacher at DSES, received $715, which she said was the exact amount she requested.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A dangerous traffic issue, where individual, industrial and school bus traffic all converge in the same location certain times of the day, will now be alleviated, thanks to a $1,009,904.50 grant.

Mercedes wants to drive students toward automotive tech careers

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Winston Career Academy recently received a luxury SUV from Mercedes-Benz to be used as a learning tool for automotive students.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - With the COVID-19 stirring up sickness, schools were closed in March by the Alabama State Department of Education. Homework packets were delivered to students, or they were completed online. What about the career and technical school? How will they be able to complete the year without the hands-on learning experience?
