Retraction - Misdemeanor Arrests in December 18, 2024, edition of the Northwest Alabamian

An error under the misdemeanor arrests in the December 18, 2024, edition of the Northwest Alabamian listed several people as having been booked into the Winston County Jail from December 6-12, when they were actually released from jail during that time frame.

The following people were not booked into the jail during this time period, but were released from the jail:

John Travis Whitlock, 48, of Haleyville;

Daniel Ray Earley, 40, of Guntersville;

Catherine Mary Ann Dawson, 60, of Haleyville;

Tyler Dakota Hays, 34, of Graysville;

County to pay $100,000 more a year for inmate healthcare

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Budget concerns will possibly be facing the Winston County Commission, after they reached a new agreement with the company providing healthcare services for county jail inmates, at a cost of over $100,000 more per year than the previous agreement.

Winston County Commission asked to pay more for inmate health care

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Officials with the company that provides medical services for Winston County Jail inmates are claiming to be in the red, offering a solution which would cost the Winston County Commission an additional $84,000 per year.

Suspect in Tuesday's officer shooting and standoff dead

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Jeffery Lee Adair, the suspect in the shooting of a Double Springs Police Department officer and ensuing standoff, has reportedly died at the Winston County Jail, where he was being held.  No further details regarding his death have been released at this time.

At the Winston County Sheriff's Office's request, the State Bureau of Investigation will be handling the investigation into Adair's death, Winston County Sheriff Caleb Snoddy stated.
