Baughn new DSES principal


New Double Springs Elementary Principal Sharon Baughn at the door to the school, where she will soon be greeting students as they enter for a new year.

DOUBLE SPRINGS    -  Sharon Baughn, newly hired principal at Double Springs Elementary School, is a strong believer in building relationships.
The Winston County Board of Education named Baughn as DSES principal effective July 1, during their regular meeting June 13, at which time they also approved the retirement of Heather Tucker from that position, effective Aug. 1.
Tucker has accepted the position of executive director of Wild Alabama, replacing the retiring Maggie Johnston.

Double Springs Elementary School second nine weeks honor rolls

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Double Springs Elementary School has released its second nine weeks honor rolls:

Winston County schools clean up with donation of wipes

WINSTON COUNTY - Addison and Double Springs elementary schools will soon have received 30,000 packages each of Lysol® disinfecting wipes from Frontline Impact Project® thanks to Lysol’s® Here for Healthy Schools campaign. Each of the 60,000 packages contains 80 wipes, for a whopping total of 4,800,000 wipes, which are being shared with all county schools.

Four teachers in Winston County receive grants


Teachers Danny Snoddy, Angela McCullar and Cindy Nuss received Alabama Power Foundation Classroom Grants at the Winston Career Academy, Jan. 26. Three teachers in Double Springs and one in Haleyville received Alabama Power Foundation Classroom Grants recently. Danny Snoddy, electrical technology instructor at the Winston Career Academy, received $1000 for the utility lineworker program. Angela McCullar, third grade teacher at Double Springs Elementary, received $1000 for her classroom, as did Casey Wilson, seventh grade special education teacher at Haleyville Middle School. Cindy Nuss, kindergarten teacher at DSES, received $715, which she said was the exact amount she requested.

Double Springs Elementary recognized for excellence with a true-blue award


DSES students and faculty, shown here enjoying the WCHS band's Christmas concert, decked themselves as well as the halls in blue and celebrated a "Blue Christmas" in honor of their Blue Ribbon award.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Double Springs Elementary School has achieved a new level of success by becoming a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School, the highest status awarded by the non-profit organization Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc.

Black Pond VFD donates masks to Double Springs Elementary

BLACK POND - Since school has started in a pandemic, and face masks are required for all students to wear, it can be tough for the younger students, as masks get dirty, they break and they are sometimes forgotten at home. The Black Pond Volunteer Fire Department saw the need and recently donated 500 disposable face masks to Double Springs Elementary School.
