March Madness Golf Tournament slated March 30

The Wallace State Relay For Life team will hold a March Madness Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 30, at Cross Creek Golf Course.
Check in will begin at 11 a.m., with a noon shotgun start. The two-player scramble is flighted and includes a couple’s division.
Entry is $120 per team, and includes green fees and cart with GPS and club cover, team range balls, tournament gift, one attempt for longest drive, one attempt for closest pin, one attempt for closest second shot, dinner, prizes/photo.

Fishing tournament set

The Winston County High School Anglers is sponsoring its first-ever fishing tournament Saturday, March 16, starting at safe light until 2 p.m. at Lewis Smith Lake dam. Entry fee is $75, with $25 going to support the fishing team. There is a $10 fee for the Big Fish, with 100 percent payout. There will be a top three payout. Meek takes one point win over Lynn; Addison girls nets win over Meek

LYNN - It went down to the wire, but the Meek varsity boys eliminated the Lynn Bears from the Winston County Basketball tournament Friday, Jan. 25, 40-39.
Held at Lynn High School, Meek had a one point lead at the end of the first quarter 11-10. Lynn led at halftime by four, 24-20. Meek narrowed the gap by two at the end of the third period, trailing 25-27 and took the victory 40-39.
Scoring for the Meek Tigers were Caleb Aaron 15 points; Chris Clark 8 points; Stuart Waldrep 6 points; Payton Key 6 points; Kevin Chino 5 points.

Winston County Basketball Tournament begins Tuesday

LYNN - The Winston County Basketball Tournament began Tuesday, Jan. 22, with junior varsity action at Lynn High School. In junior girls play, Winston County and Meek faced off on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m., followed by Addison and Lynn at 6 p.m. The championship game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. Winston County and Addison will open up the junior varsity boys game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Lynn and Meek will play at 7 p.m. Their championship game will be play at 4:15 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 26. Varsity action will start on Thursday, Jan.

WCHS runner-up in Christmas Tournament


The Winston County High School Lady Yellow Jackets captured the runner-up slot in the Winston County Christmas basketball tournament. The Lady Jackets fell to Belgreen by a score of 68-37. WCHS Lady Jackets make comeback to defeat Carbon Hill in Christmas tournament

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Lady  Jackets were  down by 17 points in the first period Thursday, Dec. 27, playing Carbon Hill in the Winston County Christmas Tournament. The Lady Jackets hosted the event.
WCHS kept closing the gap and tied the score at 38 all late in the third period and won by a score of 48-44.
Stats for the Lady Jackets include:
Kady Bonds, 9 points;  7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals;
Ella Moore, 2 points, 8 rebounds;
Emily Holt, 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal;

Lynn JV volleyball champs


The Lynn Bears junior varsity volleyball team had a successful season. In the Winston County tournament, they defeated Meek 25-13, 25-20. In the semi-final, Lynn beat Winston County 25-20, 25-8 and took down first seed Addison, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14. The Lynn Invitational tournament saw Lynn defeat Fayette County 25-23, 25-8 and Winston County 19-25, 25-15-, 15-7 in round robin play. They lost to Meek 25-26, 20-25, 12-15. In tournament play, Lynn defeated  Winston County, 25-15, 25-19 and beat Fayette County in the championship match, 25-12, 25-16. Members of the team include: Hannah Adamson, Ashley Aldridge, Ella Brown, Phebe Burkett, Lilly Davis, Chloe Gilliland, Lexi Ingle, Gracie Jordan, Samantha McCarter, Joley Sims, Kenslee Stokes, Laney Uptain. Manager is Ralen Norris and head coach Jessy Woods.

Phillips goes undefeated in Officials Tournament; Haleyville goes 3-2


The Officials Volleyball Tournament held at Winfield High School, Saturday, Aug. 18, featured teams from Haleyville, Hamilton, Lamar County, Marion County, Phillips and Winfield. PHS went undefeated in the tournament. Pictured are Alicyn McCollum and Gracie Hallman, PHS, going for a block on Allie Temple, from Haleyville High School. Haleyville went 3 and 2 in the tournament, winning against Hamilton, Marion County and Lamar County.
