WINSTON COUNTY - The Community Action Partnership of North Alabama is actively seeking new applicants for its weatherization assistance program, which provides free energy efficiency upgrades to qualifying low-income households across North Alabama. With the current waiting list fully served, CAPNA now has immediate availability to accept and assist new applicants.
Households with incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines are eligible. For example:
• 1-person household: $30,120 or less;
• 2-person household: $40,880 or less;
• 4-person household: $62,400 or less.
Both homeowners and renters may qualify. However, renters must have landlord approval to participate.
Services provided include caulking and weather stripping, attic insulation and air sealing, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, replacement of unvented gas heaters, hot water heater wrap, etc.
Interested residents can call CAPNA’s Energy Program directly at (256) 260-3116 or go to capna.org/weatherization. Applicants will be placed on the priority-based wait list and served according to state-regulated guidelines by county.
All applicants must submit copies of the following:
• valid photo ID and Social Security cards (for all household members);
• proof of income for the past 12 months;
• proof of homeownership or a landlord release form (for renters);
• a 12-month energy usage statement (electric and gas).
The Weatherization Assistance Program helps reduce energy bills by improving energy efficiency in homes.
