HHS seniors partying like it’s 1999 next week during senior play

HALEYVILLE - For those who remember the Y2K issue in 1999, you will appreciate the comedy and music in this year’s Haleyville High School senior class production, entitled “Party Like It’s 1999.”
This year’s production will have performances for various grade levels of Haleyville City School students Wednesday, Jan. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 29, with the public performance Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.-- all on the stage at the elementary school cafetorium, organizers said.
Tickets are $10 and are available from any member of the HHS 2026 senior class, as well as at the high school office, noted HHS Principal Dr. Davey Reed.
Tickets will also be sold at the door the night of the public performance, Reed said.
The play, written by HHS theater class instructor Kaylen Peppers, will be directed by Peppers, who is being assisted by Vicki Bishop, Courtney Jones and Jessica Barton.
At least 90 of the 103 total members of the 2026 senior class are involved in this year’s production, either as a cast or crew member, Peppers stated.
“It’s the ‘90s. It’s Y2K,” Peppers explained. “They go back in time on Dec. 31, 1999, to Times Square (in New York City) and try to figure out how to get back home.”
Meanwhile, all types of 1990s characters are encountered, such as the casts of  “Friends.” “Clueless,” “Happy Gilmore” and “Forrest Gump,” along with musicians popular in the 1990s, such as Destiny’s Child and the Backstreet Boys.
“It’s a slew of the 90s,” Peppers said. “The way it starts is a teacher assigns them a Y2K project.  They go to the library, and the librarian is like, ‘to get the 1990s,  let’s use this ‘90s computer.
“When they type in, the dial-up sound happens and they are transported back to  Dec. 31, 1999,” Peppers continued. “They have to figure out how to get back home.”
Among some of the villains encountered along the way are the Wet Bandits from “Home Alone” and Dr. Evil from “Austin Powers,” Peppers explained.
“If you are a fan of the ‘90s and  want to go down memory lane, come on down,” Peppers told the public. “It is all ‘90s.”
