Pond management workshop in Double Springs

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Pond owners and landowners in Winston County and surrounding areas will have an opportunity to learn practical strategies for maintaining healthy ponds during a pond management workshop hosted by Alabama Extension. The workshop will take place on Friday, May 1, from 10  a.m. to 3 p.m. in Double Springs.
The program is designed to provide research-based information for individuals who own or manage ponds, whether for recreation, livestock or fishing. Topics will include water quality, pond fertilization, aquatic plant management, proper fish stocking rates and harvesting, causes of fish kills, nuisance wildlife concerns and other common pond-related challenges. Participants will gain a better understanding of how balanced management practices can improve pond health and long-term productivity.
The workshop will be led by Extension professionals who specialize in pond and fisheries management. Educational sessions will focus on real-life scenarios and solutions that landowners can apply directly to their own ponds. Time will also be available for participants to ask questions and discuss specific issues they may be experiencing.
Registration for the workshop is $25 per person, which includes lunch. Advance registration is required and interested individuals can register online at www.aces.edu/go/winstonpond. Following registration, participants will receive detailed directions and location information by email.
This workshop is well-suited for new pond owners, long-time landowners and anyone interested in improving pond conditions through science-based management practices. Alabama Extension encourages pond owners to take advantage of this opportunity to learn how proper management decisions can protect their investment and improve overall pond function.
