Home destroyed in storm

ASHRIDGE - Lonnie and Clyda Garrison are needing assistance after losing their home during storms Saturday afternoon, July 18.
What was termed by weather officials as a microburst of strong wind sent a large tree, measuring at least three feet in diameter, into their home, crushing the bedroom and office, which resulted in rain pouring into other areas of the home, which was located on County Road 47 off County Road 2 in the Ashridge area.
Lonnie, who had lived in the aluminum sided home since around 1984, was in the kitchen when the tree fell, causing extensive damage just beyond the kitchen.
“To be honest with you, I didn’t really hear anything,” Lonnie recalled. “I heard a little racket and I looked out that window right there and saw (something) flopping - the flashing off that roof.  Then I saw the porch post fall.
“I got my jacket on, went outside, and I thought, ‘Oh my goodness,’” Lonnie said. “To be honest with you, I never really heard the fall.”
The tree had been uprooted, crashing across the deck and landing on the bedroom and office, causing the ceiling to collapse and walls to be torn out.
“It all happened so quick,” Lonnie said. “I just cried.”
The Garrisons currently do not have homeowners insurance to cover their loss, so they are needing assistance getting back on their feet.
As of press time Monday, the Garrisons were living in a camper trailer beside their home, with a generator for electricity since the power had not been restored to their home, he said.
