Tornado watch issued for Winston County

WINSTON COUNTY- A tornado watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Winston County at 9:11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, effective until 4:00 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16. The  Tornado Watch means there is the possibility of tornadoes in the incoming storm system approaching the state from Mississippi. Winston County Commission Chairman David Cummings reported that all storm shelters throughout Winston County are open and available if needed. Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri noted all city shelters are also open. Any updates will be provided as they become available.

County purchases new alert system

WINSTON COUNTY - Severe weather is not just severe thunderstorms and tornadoes but winter weather, which can drastically hamper travel conditions. With that in mind, residents across Winston County are being urged to sign up for a new weather emergency notification system that has already gone online.

HALEYVILLE - Ahead of two possible rounds of severe weather forecasted for Wednesday and then on Saturday, Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri held a meeting with department heads to make sure all preparations were in place.

HALEYVILLE-Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri called a meeting Thursday of not only department heads, but officials from various city agencies and departments ahead of a severe weather threat forecasted for this weekend.

Commission urges residents to sign up for weather alerts

WINSTON COUNTY - Weather sirens are an important way to receive weather warnings, but for residents not in the sirens’ range, it is urgent they have a rapid means of receiving weather alerts.
