Charles “Satch” Copeland Jones, 78, of Russellville, died Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Hospice of West Alabama. Charles was born in Birmingham, AL on October 24, 1940.
Charles graduated from Russellville High School where he was a member of the State Championship Track Team and set a record in pole vaulting. Charles was also a member of the football team, under the late Coach Pete Ray.
After graduating from high school, Charles served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then attended the University of North Alabama and later the University of Alabama.
Charles spent a career in sales including 23 years with Green Beverage Company in Tuscaloosa before retiring.
In his youth Charles was an active member of Boy Scouts and accomplished the level of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed gathering with friends and family to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Holidays were always special with visits from Charles as he was sure to make his rounds to family and friends.
Charles was a lifelong member of Russellville First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents O.C. and Virginia Jones; grandparents Copeland and Nell Hill; and his daughter, Kristin Jones.
Graveside services were held Monday, March 25, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Russellville with Pinkard Funeral Home directing.
Honorary pallbearers were classmates of Russellville High School; special friends, Johnny and Debbie Robinson, Renae Thrasher, Bruce Brown, Jane McGraw, Barry Meggs, Ruth Montgomery and Hal Woods. Special thanks to Rev. Clint Busler and Rev. Bo Lloyd for all their caring and support in Charles’ life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Russellville First United Methodist Church, 311 North Jackson Avenue, Russellville, AL 35653.
