Fite reaches plea deal in boating accident

SMITH LAKE  - The driver of the 2012 Mastercraft wakeboard boat that overturned July 4, resulting in the disappearance and apparent death of 26-year-old Kelsey Starling, has reached a plea agreement with the state.
William Jackson Fite, 23, of Decatur, who was initially arrested and charged with boating under the influence, has reached a plea agreement with the state.
The agreement, filed Aug. 26 in Winston County Circuit Court, detailed that Fite, represented by Jonathan Blake Lowe,  reached an agreement with Deputy District Attorney Neal Cook.
The agreement was that Fite pled guilty to boating under the influnece, listed as his first offense,  be fined $2,100 and be sentenced to 90 days in jail, according to the plea agreement.

The jail sentence shall be suspended, with the defendant placed on unsupervised probation for two years and ordered to pay court costs including a solicitor’s fee and a $70 bail bond fee, the agreement also states.
Fite shall also attend and complete a court referral program and make payments with all fees to be paid within 90 days, the agreement added.
