Lavoun (Von) Tidwell, 83, of Bear Creek, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence.
Von was born on October 13, 1935 in Marion County. He graduated from Phillips High School and then attended Northwest Alabama Community College for 2 years. Von served in the United States Navy for 3 ½ years, where he proudly served on the battleship York Town. He worked at formed tubes in Haleyville for 30 years. He was a member of Mountain Home Church of Christ for 37 years. Von enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his granddaughter, Nikki. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Nichols Funeral Home chapel in Haleyville from 1-2 p.m. His funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Wayne Phillips and Lee Barnett will officiate.
Von is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Doss Tidwell; son, Jeff Tidwell and special son, Tim (Caressa) Doss; daughter, Jennifer Tidwell and special daughter, Julia Tidwell; sister, Dellie Colburn; 5 grandchildren, Julia Nicole Tidwell, Nick Parker, Sophia Doss, Luke Doss and Christian Doss; long-time friend and fishing buddy, Leon Hicks and Buster, his loyal and faithful dog.
Von was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maudie Tidwell and sisters, Barbara Futrell and Francis (Sybil) Scott.
